Reddit 2020.40.0: back to orange and weirdest update I’ve ever seen
Platform: iOS, released 21.10.2020
Well, technically Reddit changed their temporary BLM black logo back to orange in version .39 but that wasn’t too long ago so I decided to mention that as well. It was expected.
What I didn’t expect is a release .40. Looking into release notes I got in my automated script output on 20th of October, I expected to be able to “turn on and off both email and app notifications in your settings”.
But in reality notifications settings weren’t changed. No email notifications on/off, just triggers (weird):
I hoped to get some feedback in the /redditmobile subreddit but nobody got back to me. Who would ever care about email notifications while Reddit released some unexpected and never announced features which annoyed a lot of users?
Panel with categories and recently visited subreddits which I personally find really nice and useful (tapping on News immediately creates a news feed and so on) but oldphags are of course very unhappy:
A pane with avatars of users recently commented on a post. Redditers find that useless because most avatars are app-generated and not recognizable but I think it will involve more people into commenting anyway and increase the click-through rate.
And yeah, everyone is mad about a bug fixed that lets a user award promo posts — nobody wants to. But I checked and found a sponsored post which actually had 1 award. So it works, lol:
Thanks to some NodeJS magic I get updates on the most popular mobile apps as soon as they are released and make a brief analysis of these updates here. Stay tuned to keep yourself informed.
